Moving Awkward Furniture: Televisions

Our Vancouver Movers offer tips for moving your television safely.Sometimes we must admit we feel like Homer Simpson. After a hard day’s moving, we, too, like to “bask in television’s warm glowing warming glow” with a beer in one hand and a sandwich in another. It is with this sentiment that we so value our television sets – not only because they cost so much money, but also because how much entertainment they provide us. After all, if it were not for these babies, we would have missed the 2014 FIFA World Cup! If you value this electronic treasure as much as we do, then follow these instructions for moving them safely and effectively.

How to Properly Move a Television

Materials:

  • Padding and/or Blankets
  • Lifting Straps
  • Packing Tape
  • Appliance Truck
  • Patience

Step 1: Get enough help. We cannot stress enough that you should not tempt injury (or worse) when it comes to moving televisions. Even if they are of the modern types (e.g. LED, plasma), they can still be much heavier and much more fragile than you think, so it is best to have at least two people on call to help when you move them.

Step 2: Gather enough furniture pads to cover the television entirely. Other than to protect the television itself, you also do NOT want it to flash anyone and giving anyone a free show, do you?

Step 3: Get lifting straps. We can provide this for you if you have none on hand. This is to make the television easier to move.

Step 4: Place the padding on the floor. Set the television on top of the padding and wrap the padding over it. Have another person secure the padding with packing tape while you hold down the fort.

Step 5: Attach the straps and make sure that the two people who are doing the heavy lifting have enough strength to do so and are not trying to be brave. Keep the television standing upright.

Step 6: If you have a luxurious, big screen TV that weights too much for your people, consider renting an appliance truck. We recommend using one if you have stairs that will obstruct your moving passage.

Step 7: After you have the television on the truck, make sure it’s safe and snuggly in the corner where it won’t move around so much during the drive. Keep sharp objects away from the screen.

Moving valuable investments such as televisions can be both emotionally and physically draining. If you do not feel confident enough to take on the task, please contact us to do it for you. Actually, we would insist in most cases as we simply cannot bear the heartache of seeing another television becoming road-kill like that mattress on the hands of another superhero-wannabe. :)
