In this entry we wanted to provide you with more commonly-overlooked tips when cleaning your new home before you move in.
Counters: Remember to clean between the cracks by using a putty knife to remove any debris. Use a mild cleaner or baking soda with water to clean back-splashes
Sink: Use chlorine-free bleach to clean the sink. Don’t forget to bleach the plugs by placing them in a small amount of bleach-water and letting them sit for a few minutes. Pour a mix of baking soda and hot water down the drain to unclog it. Flush with hot water for a few minutes. You can also remove sink odours by using this combination as well
Walls: Look for fingerprints around light switches and corners. Keep an eye out for sticky spots and inspect your walls under different lights and angles to see if you have missed spots. Use liquid stick cleaners to remove stubborn stains or apply a small amount of fabric softener to a sponge to rub the area. After you have removed the stains, remove all dust and cobwebs around corners and heating vents. Grab a sponge and dip it in warm water to wash the walls. Don’t forget to wipe the moulding and the baseboards as well as the light switch plates
Floors: If you have carpet, consider steam cleaning them prior to the moving date instead of after you move in. For wood floors, use wood soaps to give it a nice polished shine.
We find that people often feel too stressed after a move and would often neglect certain things when they are cleaning their new place. We hope that these tips will help you become mindful to things that you may miss after a hard day’s moving.
